40 Buried in Landslide Incident in Sichuan Province

BEIJING - Heavy rains hit Sichuan province, southwest China killed at least 40 people were buried in a landslide today. The landslide occurred in Zhongxing, Dujianhyan city, early today, according to a source from the fire brigade Chengdu, capital of Sichuan.

According to fire officials, about 30 to 40 people were buried in the area due to landslides. He said the first group of rescuers arrived at the scene. The National Meteorological Center (NMC) of China, today predicted heavy rain will continue in the Sichuan province.

NMC a blue warning for heavy rain, said some areas in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the provinces of Sichuan, Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong, Yunnan and Guangdong provinces hit by heavy rains expected today and tomorrow. The western part of Sichuan Basin will receive up to 150 millimeters of rain in 24 hours, while other areas will be hit by thunderstorms and strong winds.

NMC warned high temperatures in some parts of Guangdong and the area along the Yangtze River, Yellow River and Huaihe River. Temperatures are expected to reach 39 degrees Celsius in some parts of the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Anhui, Henan and Hubei.
