London: Ivory Coast defender Kolo Toure to complete a move to Liverpool yesterday on free transfers from team Premier League rivals Manchester City.
Central defender's contract with the City expired on Monday and the 32-year-old who had planned to move before the transfer was officially completed when the transfer market opened.
Although Liverpool have not won the English league title for over 20 years, Toure said he was very excited to join the club's five-time European champion.
"It's enough for me. I joined one of the best clubs in England, "said Toure.
"When I left the City, it is very important for me to remain in England because it is the best league and a very great opportunity to join Liverpool.
"I chose Liverpool because of its history, the spirit of this team and those who are here." Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said Toure arrival will help them fill the void left central defender Jamie Carragher veteran who retired the end of last season.
"Losing players like Jamie Carragher deeply felt for us in terms of experience," said Rodgers.
"Experience Toure very important to us but do not stop there. He has the mentality to win.
"Not many players better than Toure. He played with the big club, he understands what the championship mentality. "Yaya Toure playing with his brother in the City is the fourth player taken in Liverpool in the transfer window this season.
He's following the footsteps of the Spanish striker Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas and Belgian goalkeeper Simon Mignolet who all report on the first day of pre-season training at the club's training center at Melwood today.
